GW LAW IN D.C.
From its inception, GW Law has benefitted from and contributed to the life of the capital city. Proximity to the federal government attracts faculty prominent in national governance, and in turn, the students that they teach go on to serve the needs of the nation, occupying prominent positions as civil servants, including many federal and state judges, Cabinet officials, and members of Congress.
Washington is also home to many of the nation’s largest and best known law firms as well as scores of mid-size and “boutique” firms. Numerous public and private research organizations, public interest groups and associations concerned with myriad issues, and major corporations, including many in growing fields like information technology and biotechnology, also make their home in the Washington area. During the school year as well as in the summer, GW Law students often find employment in or arrange internships with these organizations and with government agencies, courts, and on Capitol Hill. Such work not only enriches and informs students, but also makes a substantial contribution to the practice of law.
In addition to its rich academic and career opportunities, Washington, D.C., has social and cultural offerings that rival any international city. From professional sporting events to world-class theater, from the grandeur of opera to the fringes of the music world, from Ethiopian to Siberian cuisine, from the nation’s best and most accessible museums to the many nearby national parks and nature trails, our city presents countless ways to be informed, entertained, and challenged outside, as well as inside, the classroom.
