THE HEALTH INSURANCE COUNSELING PROJECT

What is The Health Insurance Counseling Project (HICP)?

The Health Insurance Counseling Project provides free information, assistance, legal services, and education about health insurance to people with disabilities and seniors living in the District of Columbia.

We help people with Medicare to understand their options and rights and to resolve unpaid medical bills, obtain denied medical services or insurance coverage, and secure public health benefits. We have expertise in all of the following insurance areas:

  • Medicare, Medicaid, and Medigap
  • Medicare managed care (also called “Medicare Advantage”)
  • Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage
  • Long-term care insurance
  • Federal employee health benefits
  • Veteran’s health benefits
  • Durable medical equipmen
  • Hospice care
  • Many other related topics


HICP is a part of the Jacob Burns Community Legal Clinics at the George Washington Law School.  HICP receives funding from The George Washington University Law School, the D.C. Office on Aging, the D.C. Department of Health, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
