Adams Morgan

Neighborhood Guide

At the crossroads of 18th Street and Columbia Road, NW, Adams Morgan is the city’s most ethnically and culturally diverse neighborhood. This vibrant community, described by some as the “Greenwich Village of Washington, DC,” is one of the most densely populated areas of the city, and home to international and domestic students, young families, diplomats, immigrants, and longtime residents of the District.

Besides being a residential neighborhood with lots of character, Adams Morgan also is a hot spot for shopping and dining, with a vibrant club scene. A number of its distinctive 19th and early 20th Century row houses have been converted to shops offering eclectic clothing, jewelry, crafts, and antiques. Restaurants in all price ranges serve a variety of world cuisines, from Jamaican, Ethiopian, and French, to Salvadorian, Turkish, and classic American. With its high concentration of dance clubs, pool halls, and pubs, including the city’s best collection of open-air and rooftop bars, Adams Morgan often parties until 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning. Each September, the neighborhood’s cultural richness is given a family-friendly spin with Adams Morgan Day, a day-long street festival featuring food, arts, and performances from around the world.

Commute: The Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metrorail station on the Red Line is at the western edge of Adams Morgan at Connecticut Avenue and 24th Street, NW. Metrobus routes serve the heart of the neighborhood and the area near 16th Street.
