Neighborhood Guide

Just across the Potomac River in Virginia, Arlington County is perhaps best known as the home of the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery. Its numerous unincorporated neighborhoods are commonly referred to by name as if they were distinct towns. A number of these “urban villages,” including Ballston, Clarendon, Court House, Crystal City, Rosslyn, and Virginia Square, are built around Metro stations, making it easy to live, work, shop, and play within a walkable, pedestrian-friendly environment.

Arlington’s strong immigrant population, representing ethnic groups from every corner of the globe, is reflected in its hundreds of restaurants dishing up everything from Aegean to Vietnamese cuisine. Arlington's nightlife also is diverse. Its eclectic entertainment scene runs the gamut from Broadway productions and classic movies, to ‘fringe’ theater and experimental films. Live music venues host a mix of local, regional, and national bands and songwriters, open mic nights, and poetry readings.

Housing options in Arlington include townhouses, high-rise and garden apartments, duplexes, and single-family homes.
