Cleveland Park/Woodley Park
Neighborhood Guide
Located along Connecticut Avenue above Dupont Circle, Cleveland Park and Woodley Park are adjoining neighborhoods of elegant homes on winding, tree-lined streets. Though the area is largely residential, it has a good assortment of shops, restaurants, and cafes that cater to locals as well as visitors to the National Zoo, one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations. The Woodley Park–Zoo/Adams Morgan Metro station also is the nearest subway stop to two other attractions: the urban playground of Adams Morgan and the more bucolic Rock Creek Park. The largest open space in the District, Rock Creek Park is a haven for runners, hikers, tennis and soccer players, and those just looking for a quiet spot to picnic or read a book. Another well-known neighborhood fixture is the Uptown Theater, the last "movie palace" in DC still showing first-run films.
While their eclectic mix of fine architecture was originally designed as an upscale streetcar suburb, today Cleveland Park and Woodley Park offer a variety of housing opportunities, including high-rise apartments, group houses, and basement apartments in private homes.
Commute: Cleveland Park/Woodley Park is situated on a busy Metrobus route and is served by the Red Line with two Metrorail stations, Woodley Park–Zoo/Adams Morgan and Cleveland Park.
