Federal Work Study Program
A limited amount of aid is available for students obtaining employment through the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP). You must have exhausted your Federal Stafford Loan eligibility for the year before eligibility for FWSP may be determined. The typical steps for receiving work study:
- You are offered a job from an employer requiring you to be a work-study recipient
- The employer must be registered with GW as an eligible FWSP employer
- You ask Financial Aid to determine whether or not you qualify; you must already have filed for, and be receiving, the full Federal Stafford Loan for the academic year
- Financial Aid will inform you of your eligible FWSP amount
- You inform your potential employer of your eligibility amount; the employer offers a pay rate typically less than your eligible FWSP amount
- You let Law Financial Aid know what the employer offers and ask to have an FWSP award confirmed
- Once confirmed, all remaining paperwork is handled between you, your FWSP employer, and the GW University (not Law School) Career Center.
