QUICK GUIDE: LOCATING NON-LEGAL PERIODICALS & ARTICLES
I. Search JACOB, the online catalog of the Jacob Burns Law Library
- The Law Library may have the print periodical in its collection.
- JACOB also provides links to electronic, PDF versions of selected periodicals.
II. Search the ALADIN Catalog (includes the GWU Gelman Library)
- The ALADIN Catalog provides information about materials found in the collections of the WRLC (Washington Research Libraries Consortium) member libraries, which includes the Gelman Library. The other WRLC members include the main libraries of American University, Catholic University, Gallaudet University, George Mason University, Georgetown University, Marymount University, and University of the District of Columbia.
- If the Gelman Library has the periodical in print, you may retrieve it from the 3rd Floor periodicals collection. The periodicals desk at Gelman may be reached at (202) 994-0579.
- If one of the other WRLC member libraries has the periodical in print, you may either visit that library (be sure to verify that it is open to the public) or make a request for an article using the ILL Request Form (please see information below on WorldCat for note on including the OCLC number in the "Notes" field of the ILL Request Form).
- The ALADIN Catalog also provides links to electronic, PDF versions of selected periodicals.
III. Use the e-journal Title Finder available through ALADIN
- Links to full text online journals, many in PDF.
- "GW" must be listed in the search results in order to view full text online.
IV. Search the WorldCat database
- WorldCat lists libraries (law and non-law) nationwide that have a particular print periodical in their collection.
- If the library has a periodical, you may make a request for an article using the ILL Request Form (note: please, if possible, include the OCLC number found at the bottom of the WorldCat record in the "Notes" field of the ILL Request Form).
V. Search the Article and Other Databases through ALADIN.
