Locating U.N. Press Releases and Memoranda
Rule 21.7.4 states that U.N. Press releases and memoranda should be cited just as U.N. Reports including the name of the issuing body, the title of the document, date, and the U.N. document number.
The Burns Law Library does not maintain print copies of press releases, but they can easily be found on the web at several places.
- UN News Centre
The UN News Centre provides links to current United Nations deliberations and programs. It also provides access to an archive of press releases from the major bodies of the U.N. Press releases are available back to October 1995.
- General Assembly Press Releases
Provides access to the press releases of the President of the General Assembly, plenary meetings, and all committees. Press releases are available back to October 1995.
- Security Council Press Releases
Provides access to the press releases of the Security Council. Documents are available back to October 1995.
- Economic and Social Council Press Releases
Provides access to the latest 30 days of press releases by ECOSOC and provides a link to a database of press releases that go back to October 1995.
- Official Web Locator for the United Nations System of Organizations
Many U.N. bodies provide access to press releases from their websites. This site provides links to the websites of over 100 United Nations funds, programmes, and specialized agencies.
