QUICK GUIDE: LOCATING UNITED NATIONS DOCUMENTATION
Finding U.N. Reports
Rule 21.7.3 of the Bluebook provides citation rules for citing to general U.N. reports, reports from U.N. Conferences and reports from the Secretary-General or the President of a Committee. These materials can be found in two places at the Jacob Burns Law Library. Selected reports and documents may be available in print and can be found by searching JACOB or they can be located by their U.N. symbol in the U.N. fiche collection located on LL1. Reports of many of the main bodies of the U.N. are issued as supplements to the Official Records of the United Nations. Consult the Index to Proceedings of the General Assembly or the Index to Proceedings of the Security Council to identify what documents where issued as supplements in a given session.
Also, many annual reports and conference documents for the period 1992-present can be found at the Official Document System of the United Nations (ODS). Searching by U.N. document symbol is the most efficient way to located needed documents, although keyword searching is also available. ODS can be consulted at http://documents.un.org/welcome.asp?language=E. Finally, individual bodies of the U.N. provide their reports and documents from their web pages. Use the Official Web Site Locator for the United Nations System of Organizations to identify the website of the needed body. It can be found at: http://www.unsystem.org/.
