Carole Montgomery, Esq., Director

Carole Montgomery is the Director of the CDO. Before joining the CDO in 2000, she practiced real estate and mortgage banking law for 16 years in private law firms, federal agencies, including a six-year contract as the Director of Legal Services for a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development loan program, and as in-house counsel. She was also a professional legal recruiter. Prior to joining GW Law School, she was a career counselor at American University, Washington College of Law. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rhode Island and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law.

Cindy Tewksbury joined the Career Development Office in April 2007 as the Associate Director, Section 11 and Section 21 Career Counselor, and Intellectual Property Advisor. As the IP Advisor, Cindy provides guidance to students interested in exploring a career in the IP field. As the Section 11 and Section 21 Career Counselor, Cindy helps law students with their short-term and long-term career goals. Before joining the CDO, Cindy was an Assistant General Counsel with AOL Inc., where she handled transactional matters related to technology and software licensing. Cindy started her legal career as an Attorney Advisor with the Federal Communications Commission. During her time at the FCC, she worked in the policy divisions of both the Cable Bureau (now part of the Media Bureau) and the Common Carrier Bureau (now known as the Wireline Bureau). After the FCC, Cindy joined the communications practice group of a large DC-based law firm. Cindy also served as in-house regulatory counsel for a paging carrier located in New Jersey prior to joining AOL. She graduated with Distinction from George Mason University and she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia.


Michelle Cotter Richards, Esq., Assistant Director

Michelle Cotter Richards joined the CDO in July 2007.  Michelle provides law students with short-term and long-term career advice. Michelle is a graduate of the Law School and prior to joining the CDO worked as a summer associate, associate, and senior associate in the Litigation/White Collar Criminal Defense group at a large litigation-focused law firm, where she was also a member of the Hiring Committee. Michelle also served as Associate Litigation Counsel at MCI, Inc. and as an intern with the Federal Communications Commission. Michelle graduated from The George Washington Law School with Honors in 2001 and from Fordham University in 1998.


Stephanie M. Deckter, Esq., Career Counselor

Stephanie Deckter is a Career Counselor and the LL.M. and LL.M. Alumni Advisor.  Stephanie counsels both U.S.- and Foreign-Trained LL.M. students and alumni on navigating the job market by focusing on issues that are unique to the LL.M. job-seeker.  Prior to joining the CDO in April 2009, Stephanie was an associate at a national IP law firm where she specialized in patent prosecution and litigation.  She also worked at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Examiner.  Stephanie is a 2005 graduate of The George Washington University Law School and holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from SUNY Binghamton. 


Tamara Dévieux-Adams, Esq., Career Counselor

Tamara Dévieux-Adams is the CDO’s Public Interest Career Counselor and Pro Bono Liaison, and joined the office in November 2006. Tamara focuses on counseling students and alumni who want to pursue public interest internships and post-graduate job opportunities. She also administers GW Law’s Pro Bono Program, through which students volunteer legal services to those in the D.C. metro area. Before joining the CDO, Tamara worked for the District of Columbia’s Office of Youth Rehabilitation Services, where she presided over administrative hearings for incarcerated juvenile offenders and served as Acting Chief of Staff. Prior to that, she was an Assistant General Counsel with the Massachusetts Office of Early Education and Care, the agency tasked with enforcing child care licensing regulations and administering subsidies for the care of low-income children. She also was a litigation associate in the Boston, MA office of a large international law firm. Tamara is a graduate of Harvard College and of Boston College Law School.

Susan Fine joined the Career Development Office in August 2009 and is the Career Counselor for Section 13.  She also counsels students on professional development and opportunities in non-traditional legal career paths.  Before joining the CDO, Susan worked in retained executive search for non-profit organizations.  She was responsible for the full range of search services, including research, drafting position statements, candidate recruitment and evaluations, and client relations.  She also earned the designation of Certified Staffing Professional through the American Staffing Association.  Previously, Susan had consulted for non-profits in the areas of programming, public relations, development and administration.  Earlier in her career, following a federal clerkship, Susan practiced as an attorney in the Office of Legal Counsel at the United States Department of Justice.  She also worked on Capitol Hill, as a summer associate in two large law firms, and as an intern for a public interest law firm.  Susan holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in History and English, and Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan. 


Jenice Goffe, Esq., Career Counselor

Jenice Goffe joined the CDO in Spring 2008 in the newly created position of Diversity Counselor. Jenice assists diverse law students with their job searches and works with the diverse student organizations. She also liaises with employers interested in recruiting diverse law students. Jenice manages the Diversity Newsletter which keeps students informed of the latest diversity job fairs and scholarship opportunities. Prior to joining the CDO, Jenice practiced corporate law in the Washington, DC office of a large, international law firm. Her practice focused on corporate, transactional, and regulatory matters in the communications and technology sectors. She is a graduate of Boston University and the University of Virginia School of Law.


Meridith Sharpe Jacobs, Esq., Career Counselor

Meridith Sharpe Jacobs is the Alumni Career Development Counselor at the CDO.  She works with alumni to identify professional goals, outline strategic plans, and conduct individualized job searches.  Prior to transitioning to career advising Meridith practiced family law for several years at a small boutique in Washington, D.C.  She then served as the Assistant Director of the Office of Career and Professional Development at The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.  Meridith is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and The George Washington University Law School.

La Tanya James-Rouse is the Career Counselor for Sections 14 and 15.  La Tanya provides law students with short-term and long-term career advice.  Prior to joining the CDO in September 2009, La Tanya was a litigation associate in the Northern Virginia office of a large, international law firm where she specialized in employment and trade secret misappropriation litigation.  She also served as an intern at the D.C. Office of the Attorney General.  La Tanya is a graduate of Harvard College and Georgetown University Law Center.


Anna Marshall, Esq., Career Counselor

Anna Marshall is the Section 12 Career Counselor and the Government Advisor in the CDO, where she has worked since 2004. Before joining the CDO, Anna was an associate attorney at a small law firm in Northern Virginia. She practiced primarily family law, including divorce and child custody and relocation. In addition, she served as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Arthur B. Vieregg of the Fairfax County Circuit Court. She earned her J.D. from William and Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law, after graduating summa cum laude from Virginia Tech.

Keri McCoy is the Alumni Liaison and a Career Counselor with the Career Development Office. Keri joined the CDO in 2006 after initially serving as the Law School’s Senior Counselor for Student Development. Keri works with alumni to identify short- and long-term career goals and assists them in developing individualized career plans. She provides counseling on issues such as lateral moves, salary, alternative careers, geographic and practice area transitions, partnership, and work-life balance. Before joining the Law School, Keri worked as a litigation associate at a firm in the District of Columbia. Prior to that, she worked in private practice in both New Jersey and Texas. Keri is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.
