The Judicial Clerkship Handbook: This nuts and bolts guide to clerkships will walk you through the application process. See the timeline and checklist for a step-by-step guide to the process. Hard copies of the updated manual are available from the Judicial Clerkship Program Coordinator in B302. It is also accessible online through the portal under the Clerkship Department Info.
Symplicity Judge Database: This database of judges is located under the "Clerkship" tab when students or alumni log into Symplicity, and can be used by students and alumni interested in applying for judicial internships or post-graduation clerkships with federal judges. The database helps you identify which judges you want to apply to and helps the Clerkship Office coordinate the preparation of recommendation letters between GW Law faculty and you. If you do not have Symplicity password, please contact the CDO.
Online Links: Important links include OSCAR, the Online System for Clerkship Application and Review maintained by the Administrative Office of the US Courts, and Vermont Law School’s Guide to State Judicial Clerkship Hiring Procedures. For the password to the Vermont Guide, please contact the Judicial Clerkship Program Coordinator.
Information about Judges: We have compiled several tables to help you in selecting the judges to whom you want to apply. The tables of Recent Placements - one for Federal Judge Placements and one for State Judge Placements - will acquaint you with the judges around the country who have hired GW Law graduates in the last six or seven years, and thus know the quality of our graduates and will be particularly interested in hiring you. The GW-Connected Judges table shows judges who are GW Law alumni or who have taught at the Law School, and may give preference to applications from GW Law students.
