Scholarships and Financial Aid
GW Law offers both competitive scholarships based on merit and need-based scholarships for deserving students. These awards are financed through a financial aid program totaling over $6,000,000 for the current academic year. A significant percentage of this total is provided through alumni support.

Teaching, Professional Skills, and Career Development
Alumni support of our operating budget helps to underwrite faculty salaries, so we can maintain competitive student-faculty ratios, as well as to provide funding for summer research projects and library acquisitions-initiatives which strengthen our faculty and enhance the learning experience of our students.

Private support helps underwrite our Legal Research and Writing Program. This unique and intensive program is designed to help students develop professional writing skills. Led by 2 full-time faculty members, this program draws over 45 practicing attorneys into the classroom to work with first- and second-year students.

The Law School continues to attract talented faculty. In 2004-05 we added 8 full-time faculty and 12 visiting professors who have brought added strength to many areas of our curriculum including: international law, environmental law, intellectual property law, civil procedure, corporate law, and constitutional law.

Clerkships, Clinics, and Speakers

GW Law students benefit from a variety of extracurricular programs:

The Career Development Office provides superior support to our students who are seeking judicial clerkships. Over the past 10 years we have placed 5 GW students in Supreme Court clerkships - a trend which we expect to continue.

We continue to provide "hands on" experience for our students and a service to our community through the Jacob Burns Community Legal Clinics including: Civil Litigation Clinic; Consumer Mediation Clinic; Federal, Criminal, and Appellate Clinic; International Human Rights Clinic; Public Justice Advocacy Clinic; Immigration Clinic; Small Business Clinic; Vaccine Injury Clinic; Health Law Rights Clinic; J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Environmental Law Clinic; the Project for Older Prisoners; and Law Students in Court.

Our Enrichment Program features distinguished speakers such as Supreme Court Justices Scalia, O'Connor, Kennedy, and Ginsburg; Senators Fred Thompson, George Mitchell, and Orrin Hatch; author Scott Turow; columnist George Will; FCC chairman Reed Hunt; and ACLU president Nadine Strossen. Each year the events draw numerous alumni and guests to the School.

Summer Study Abroad programs are held at Oxford (International Human Rights Law) and in Munich (Intellectual Property Program).

Enhanced Teaching Facilities for Faculty and Students
Capital projects have transformed the Law School. Work, study, and social space for students have grown by 40% and now rival the top schools in the country.

We are providing students and faculty with advanced technology both in our Law Library and in our renovated classrooms.
