Biographical Sketch
Ms. Newman is a trial attorney in the Civil Trial Section of the Tax Division at the United States Department of Justice. She litigates affirmative and defensive civil cases in federal district and bankruptcy courts that present a variety of legal issues involving federal tax law, bankruptcy law, constitutional law, commercial law and state property law, as well as a panoply of evidentiary, procedural, and jurisdictional issues. Ms. Newman graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and received her master's degree in chemistry from the University of Connecticut. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Ms. Newman served as the law clerk to the Honorable Raymond W. Gruender, Circuit Court Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
