Biographical Sketch
Before coming to the Law School in 1993, Professor Clark spent several years practicing law in the Washington, D.C. office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where he specialized in trial and appellate litigation.

Previously, Professor Clark served as an attorney adviser in the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel, where he provided legal advice to the president, the attorney general, and the heads of executive departments. Professor Clark also served as a law clerk to Judge Robert H. Bork of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

Professor Clark teaches and writes in the areas of civil procedure, constitutional law and structure, federal courts, and foreign relations. His scholarship has appeared in numerous journals, including California Law Review, Columbia Law Review, Texas Law Review, University of Pennsylvania Law Review, and Virginia Law Review. Since 2003, Professor Clark has been serving as a special master appointed by the Supreme Court to oversee an original action between states. Professor Clark was a visiting professor at Harvard Law School during the 2007-08 academic year, and will be a visiting professor at the University of Michigan Law School during the Fall 2009 semester.
