Dean Jenkins joined the staff of the Law School in 1982, after a 28-year career in the U.S. Navy. At the time of his retirement from the Navy, he was serving as a rear admiral, Judge Advocate General's Corps, in the position of judge advocate general of the Navy. Dean Jenkins's other Navy assignments included duty as both deputy and assistant judge advocate general, as special counsel to the secretary of the Navy, and as a faculty member at the Naval Justice School.
Dean Jenkins is a member of the bars of the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. He is an active member of the American Bar Association and serves in the ABA House of Delegates as the delegate from the Judge Advocates Association-the bar association for military lawyers.
Dean Jenkins has also served as the chair of the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Lawyers in the Armed Forces and is currently a member of the Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Federal Bar Association and is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He is currently chair of the Advisory Board of the National Institute of Military Justice.
