Meaghan Hemmings Kent is an attorney in the D.C. office of Venable LLP. She focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation, including copyright, trademark, false advertising, right of publicity, domain name and patent matters. She has developed an expertise in online disputes, including resolving publicity, copyright, trademark and counterfeit disputes with social networking sites and other online venues, such as YouTube. Ms. Kent's practice also includes intellectual property counseling and transactional work and she is a registered patent attorney.
Ms. Kent has authored numerous articles and the book An Associate’s Guide to the Practice of Copyright Law, published by Oxford University Press. She is currently working on An Associate’s Guide to the Practice of Trademark Law, set to be published by Oxford in 2011.
During law school, Ms. Kent was the Acquisitions Editor for the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal, served as an extern for the Hon. Edward M. Chen, United States District Court, N.D.Cal. and also for the Hon. Paul R. Haerle, California Court of Appeal, 1st App. Dist. She also worked with the Legal Writing and Research Department, both as a research assistant for the department and then as a teaching assistant for the first year course during both her second and third years.
