Biographical Sketch
Professor Farris practices in the areas of commercial sales counseling, complex transactions, corporate compliance, small business, and U.S. government contracts. He has over 19 years of experience in these areas. He is a partner in the Potomac Law Group and also serves as Of Counsel to DCBA Law & Policy, both in Washington, D.C.

Prior to starting his own practice in 2011, Professor Farris was the general counsel at Click 4 Compliance (C4C), where he was also a member of the Executive Management Team. He helped solidify and protect C4C’s intellectual property, developed its legal policies and procedures, devised its standard templates, and trained its staff.

Professor Farris held a variety of senior positions in the Legal and Compliance Organization of Sun Microsystems between 1998 and 2010, before it was acquired by Oracle. He served as general counsel of Sun Federal and General Counsel of the Americas (including the U.S., Latin America, and Canada). Professor Farris managed a team of over 30 employees responsible for sales revenues in excess of $6 billion. At Sun, he led several major projects, including an overhaul of the standard sales templates and processes, as well as a significant expansion of the legal wiki at Sun to aid lawyers and contract managers in their complex negotiations. He also advised senior business leaders at Sun on major overseas operations and internal investigations.

Prior to joining Sun, Professor Farris worked for six years as an associate at Crowell & Moring in Washington, D.C., where he specialized in Government Contracts. He received his B.A. in Sociology and French from the College of William & Mary in 1989, and his J.D. from William & Mary’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1992.
