After graduating law school, Michael Liebman was a law clerk to the honorable Frank E. Schwelb, Associate Judge, D.C. Court of Appeals. He was then hired into the Department of Justice Honors Program. Professor Liebman worked for 11 years as a trial attorney in DOJ's Criminal Division, mostly in the Internal Security Section, where he prosecuted espionage cases and other national security-related criminal offenses.
In 2002, Professor Liebman became an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia. Since 2007, he has been assigned to the Homicide Section of the Superior Court Division. In 2013, he became one of the Division's two Senior Litigation Counsels.
