Professor Barufka serves as firm- wide leader for Pillsbury's Intellectual Property practice. With more than 20 years of experience representing numerous Fortune 500 companies, Professor Barufka is ranked by both The Legal Times and Chambers as one of the top intellectual property attorneys in the country. His practice includes strategic intellectual property counseling and prosecution, litigation, dispute resolution, licensing, technology transactions, intellectual property mining and enforcement, copyright protection, and pre-litigation opinions. Professor Barufka has extensive experience in both ex parte and inter partes reexaminations, often involving patents in concurrent litigation. His client counseling practice develops strategic patent programs that posture the client's patent portfolio to increase market share, improve margins, and generate licensing revenue in a cost- effective manner. He works closely with clients on new product launches to minimize risks associated with costly litigation and also concentrates in patent claim interpretation and designing -around valid US patents. In addition, he routinely provides advice in support of technology transactions and patent litigation. His areas of technical focus are electrical, mechanical, semiconductor, computer, software, medical devices and business methods.
Professor Barufka has been quoted by the Wall Street Journal, The ABA Journal, Forbes, Investor's Business Daily and National Journal's Technology Daily. He has also appeared as a featured guest on the CNNfn television program, "Your Money," as well as Bloomberg TV's InsideTrack. He has served as an expert witness on patent infringement, and was a co-founder and editor of Patent Strategy and Technology Management, a monthly journal published by American Lawyer Media. Mr. Barufka sits on the Inter Partes Proceedings Committee for the Intellectual Property Owners (IPO) organization. He is currently monitoring issues related to the America Invents Act (AIA) and patent reform.
