Dr. Al-Meswari has extensive knowledge of and experience in civil law system. Before coming to the United States in 1979, Dr. Al-Meswari worked as a public prosecutor and then as a trial judge at the Court of First Instance in Libya, adjudicating both civil and criminal cases. He then became a civil law notary public, drafting and authenticating real estate transactions, mortgages and corporation contracts.
In addition to teaching at GW Law, Dr. Al-Meswari has worked as in-house Counselor at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, D.C., since 2000. In that capacity, he advises Embassy staff on legal issues and manages legal matters and proceedings in which the Embassy or its nationals are involved. Before joining the UAE Embassy, he worked as an academic advisor at the Saudi Cultural Mission in Washington, D.C.
