- drafted three Titles of Maine's state statutes on banking, commercial, and consumer law
- founding member of Ralph Nader's Public Interest Research Group
- co-author of International Business Transactions, the most widely used casebook in its field
- co-author of casebooks in International Sales Law and Consumer Law
- former member of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and was the chief of delegation to its Working Group on Payment Systems (1982-89)
- received a Fulbright Grant to be an adviser to the Polish Minister of Finance (1991-92)
- edits a Reporter of NAFTA case decisions and has recently drafted a Commercial Code for Eritrea
