Alumnus Gregory G. Garre, the 44th Solicitor General of the United States, Delivered the Susan N. and Augustus diZerega Jr. Speaker  Address at the Law School Diploma Ceremony

Professor Garre is currently a visiting member of the GW Law faculty. As solicitor general, he argued more than 25 cases before the United States Supreme Court and additional matters before the federal courts of appeals. He has had extensive experience in the solicitor general’s office and was a partner in the law firm of Hogan & Hartson LLP in Washington, where he headed the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate practice section. Professor Garre graduated from GW Law in 1991 with high honors and was editor-in-chief of the law review. He clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist and prior to that for Judge Anthony J. Scirica, the chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
