Associate Dean Schenck and Professor Berman Awarded for Support of Student Military Members, Veterans, and Families  

Vice Admiral (Ret.) Melvin Williams, Jr., GW's Associate Provost for Military and Veterans Affairs awarded Lisa Schenck, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Paul Schiff Berman, Manatt/Ahn Professor of Law, with two inaugural VALOR Excellence Awards. The university bestows these awards on individuals who demonstrate excellence in learning and service to the benefit of GW student military members, veterans, and their families. A retired U.S. Army Colonel, Dean Schenck is working to begin on-base GW education at Fort Belvoir. Professor Berman received the award for his efforts to offer online degree programs exclusively for military, veterans, and military family members in his role as GW's Vice Provost for
Online Education.

"Lisa Schenck (Colonel US Army retired) demonstrated VALOR excellence as she and GW Law continue their historical support for Judge Advocate General candidates and military law professionals. Her leadership, supported by Associate Dean Hank Molinengo (Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy retired) and Gregory Maggs, Interim Dean of GW Law (Colonel, US Army Reserves) will contribute to the GW VALOR initiative to commence GW education on-base at Fort Belvoir in Northern Virginia starting in the Fall semester of 2014."

"Vice Provost Paul Schiff Berman demonstrated VALOR excellence by incorporating the Office of the Associate Provost for Military and Veterans Affairs within his responsibilities, and advancing the GW VALOR initiatives, which include the first ever Undergraduate Online Degree completion programs exclusively for military, veterans, and military family member students, as well as other programs which exhibit academic innovation."

The VALOR Excellence Awards are bestowed annually to recognize individuals and teams who demonstrate excellence in learning and service to the benefit of GW student military members, veterans, and their families as aligned with the GW VALOR core values, principles, and initiatives and which also therefore contribute to the institutional mission and prestige of the George Washington University.
