Background

Susan L. Karamanian joined the law school in 2000, after a 14-year career at Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell, LLP in Dallas, Texas. While in private practice, Dean Karamanian represented foreign and domestic clients in a variety of commercial disputes. She also maintained an active pro bono docket, in which she represented inmates on Texas death row in their post-conviction appeals. 

Dean Karamanian has served in many leadership capacities in the American Society of International Law, including having been its vice-president from 1996 to 1998. She is a member of the boards of the Center for American and International Law and the Texas Appleseed Foundation and on the advisory boards of the Kuwait International Law School and Karamah. In 2009 she was elected President of the Washington Foreign Law Society. A Rhodes Scholar, she previously served on the board of the Association of American Rhodes Scholars. She currently teaches a course each summer on Intellectual Property and Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center LLM program, which GW Law co-sponsors.

She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Council on Germany and a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation.
