Janet Fries is of counsel with Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath's Intellectual Property Practice Group where her practice focuses on copyright and trademark law, entertainment law, and Internet law. Ms. Fries has represented numerous authors, artists, collectors, estates, art organizations, musicians, producers, and Internet companies in connection with issues involving contract negotiation and preparation, website review, copyright and trademark protection, and enforcement and related matters. Ms. Fries is a frequent lecturer and has published a number of articles on copyright and related topics. She is vice president of the Board of the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts and a member of the advisory board of the Washington Sculptors Group. Ms. Fries is an active member of the IP Section of the American Bar Association; she is the Chair of the ABA Copyright Division and a member of the ABA Copyright Reform Task Force. Ms. Fries is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and an Advisor to the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law, Copyright project. In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Fries is an experienced professional editorial and fine art photographer. Her work has been published and exhibited widely and is in the permanent collections of museums including the National Portrait Gallery. She is a contributing photographer with Getty Images.
