Joseph K. Wheatley joined the Criminal Division of the United States Department of Justice in 2005 through the Attorney General's Honors Program. He started in the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section, now the Organized Crime and Gang Section, where he has prosecuted a variety of criminal groups, including La Cosa Nostra, Eurasian organized crime, MS-13, the Phantom Outlaw Motorcycle Club, the Vice Lords, and the Tran Organization.
He has also served as an instructor for prosecutors at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina and at the BADIKLAT, the training academy for Indonesian prosecutors in Jakarta.
Mr. Wheatley graduated from Princeton University, magna cum laude, and from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he served as Senior Editor of the Journal of International Economic Law and co-founded the Journal of International Law and Policy, now the Journal of International Law.
