Stephen Silverman has been a trial attorney in the Plan Benefits Security Division of the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of the Solicitor since 2008. His practice involves all aspects of Title I fiduciary litigation under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), with a primary focus on ensuring that individuals and entities meet their fiduciary obligations when managing employee retirement plans. In that capacity, he advises his client agency (the Employee Benefits Security Administration) concerning potential ERISA violations and has litigated enforcement actions in federal district courts across the country on behalf of retirement plan participants. Mr. Silverman has also represented the Department of Labor in the U.S. Courts of Appeals (the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Tenth Circuits) as well as in the U.S. Supreme Court, alongside the Solicitor General's office.
