Tammy Tideswell is the Senior Associate Dean for Administrative Aﬀairs and the John S. Jenkins Family Professorial Lecturer in Law and Policy. She joined the law school in 2020 after completing a distinguished 30-year career in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, retiring with the rank of Captain.
Dean Tideswell is a proven leader with extensive managerial experience having acted as the Chief Operating Oﬃcer of the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps and as the Chief Prosecutor of the Navy. She was also assigned as the Special Assistant for Strategic Planning where she developed a 10-year plan chartering a course for the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Dean Tideswell had command of Region Legal Service Oﬃce Midwest where she supervised the provision of prosecution and command legal services throughout a 12-state region. She also served in the Navy’s Oﬃce of Legislative Aﬀairs. Dean Tideswell was the senior military legal advisor to Commander, Navy Installations Command, a command responsible for the operation and management of all Naval installations worldwide through eleven Navy Regions.
An expert in military justice, Dean Tideswell served as a prosecutor, Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorney, and as the Senior Military Judge in the Northwest Judicial Circuit. She was also assigned as the Chair of the Trial Advocacy and Criminal Law Department at the Naval Justice School where all sea service attorneys receive legal training. She is a certiﬁed National Institute of Trial Advocacy instructor.
In her last tour of duty, Dean Tideswell was appointed by the Secretary of Defense as the Staﬀ Director to the Defense Advisory Committee on the Investigation, Prosecution, and Defense of Sexual Assault in the Armed Forces and the Judicial Proceedings Panel. These Congressionally mandated panels were tasked with reviewing the handling of sexual assault cases within the military justice system.
Dean Tideswell is a member of the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, the Court of Appeals of the Armed Forces, and the Supreme Court of the State of Indiana.
