Thomas R. Mounteer

Tom Mounteer is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of the international law firm of Paul Hastings. He co-chairs the firm's environmental practice and advises businesses in all areas of environmental law. For the past few years, he has kept busy advising on the development and financing of alternative energy projects. Mr. Mounteer came to Washington in 1982 to work for Congressman Gillis Long, from Louisiana's 8th Congressional District. 

In 1985, he completed his law degree at The George Washington University Law School. In 1994, he received his masters in Environmental Law from GW Law as well. Since 1997, he has been an adjunct professor at the law school, teaching master levels courses in both the fall and spring semesters. In May 2009, the law school awarded him its Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Teaching Award. 

In June 2009, the Environmental Law Institute published Mr. Mounteer's treatise on climate change law. In 2010, he wrote a monthly climate change column for the Institute's Environmental Law Reporter News & Analysis, and in January 2010, joined the Institute's board of directors. Mr. Mounteer is also a member of the Founders Council of the Williams Institute, at UCLA Law School, and chair of the board of directors of the Federal City Performing Arts Association.
