2018 Education Award Ceremony

The George Washington University has been selected for the National Contract Management Association's (NCMA) 2018 Contract Management Education Award. The award was created to celebrate colleges and universities that exemplify NCMA’s mission, vision, and values.

This award recognizes the academic excellence offered by the Government Procurement Law program at GW Law in preparing law students and practitioners to enter or advance in this specialized field since 1960. More recently, the law school has partnered with the GW School of Business to offer a Master of Science in Government Contracts (MSGC), expanding our influence by presenting a rigorous, blended course of study to non-attorneys in the procurement field. Expert full-time and adjunct faculty are recognized around the world over and generate scholarship and thought-provoking discussions for students, who bring a broad array of perspectives to the classroom. The program explores the body of rules regulating the process by which the federal government enters into contracts with private parties and oversees the performance of those contracts. Courses offered allow students to carefully examine and critically analyze policies, practices, issues, and decisions that impact contract management, and, more broadly, acquisition and government contracting. The scholarship generated by students is published in the leading journals and news outlets in the field of government procurement.

The NCMA award reflects an appreciation for GW's teaching model in which law students, practicing lawyers, and experienced acquisition professionals in the classroom, both in-residence and on-line, are united to build a scholarly, professional community that defies traditional "silos." Law students graduate with an understanding of the business process, and MSGC students achieve a broader appreciation of the theoretical background and policy goals behind the Federal Acquisition Regulation.

The National Contract Management Association (NCMA), which was founded in 1959, is the world's leading professional resource for those in the field of contract management.  The organization, which has over 22,000 members, is dedicated to the professional growth and educational advancement of procurement and acquisition personnel worldwide.  NCMA strives to serve and inform the profession it represents and to offer opportunities for the open exchange of ideas in neutral forums.
