Andrew F. Knaggs earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1996 and a JD from William & Mary Law in 2008. He served in the US Army as a Green Beret, commanded an operational detachment in the 5th Special Forces Group, deployed to combat in Iraq twice, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for combat actions during Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

Mr. Knaggs has also served as a federal civilian in multiple capacities including, as the Chief of Research and Engineering at the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO); and, most recently, for two years as a senior executive political appointee in the Trump Administration in the role of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Combating Terrorism. 

Prior to joining the Administration in 2017, he founded Knaggs Law PLLC which represents clients in corporate transactions and national security matters. Mr. Knaggs resigned from the Administration in September 2019 in order to run for US Congress as a Republican, representing Virginia’s 7th District. He announced his candidacy on October 1, 2019.
