Mr. Hansen serves as the County Attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland. In that capacity, he provides leadership to 50 attorneys who provide legal services to the Montgomery County Government in litigation and transaction/general counsel matters. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Hansen served in various positions in the Office of the County Attorney since 1984. Mr. Hansen’s areas of concentration are government operations, legislation, and government ethics.

Mr. Hansen is a former mayor of Washington Grove, Maryland (1987-90), and is the current Chair, Board of Zoning Appeals of Washington Grove. He has served on various sections and committees of the International Municipal Lawyer’s Association. He was previously in private practice (1975-84). He is admitted to the Maryland Bar (1975), and is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for Maryland (1976), the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals (1977), and the U.S. Supreme Court (1980). Mr. Hansen is a member of the Maryland and Montgomery County Bar Associations.
