BLSA Members Meet FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez

GW's Black Law Student Association members 3L Tatiana Cody and 2Ls Halcyon Apy and Jordan Green had a chance to meet Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairwoman, Edith Ramirez during a roundtable lunch gathering last month. Since the beginning of her tenure, Chairwoman Ramirez has focused on raising awareness about the fraudulent and deceptive schemes faced by many low-income communities of color, including scams related to immigration benefits, credit repair, debt relief, and unfair home loan interests. Participants were given the opportunity to interact with Chairwoman Ramirez and discuss key issues involving the FTC.

The event was hosted by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, whose Board of Governors President is GW Law Professor Spencer A. Overton. The Center is a nonprofit public policy organization that produces innovative ideas, research, and policy solutions that have a positive impact on people and communities of color. The organization conducts a series of events throughout the year which bring key officials leaders of color and the public together.
