The mission of the Latino Law Alumni Association (LLAA) is to develop a vibrant network of Latino alumni and students; to support the members’ academic and professional development; and to promote the recruitment and advancement of Latino students, faculty, and staff at the George Washington University Law School.

First Tuesday of each month

We meet on the first Tuesday of each month to plan and implement our programming. We welcome existing and new members to participate. There is no cost to join.

Latinos in the Law
Thursday, October 6 - 7:00 PM - Jacob Burns Moot Court Room

Please join us for a panel of GW Law students, professors, and alumni as they share their experiences.  This panel is geared towards 1L's and undergrad students considering law school.  Our panelists will discuss their time at GW Law as well as what they have learned in their careers and advice they wish they had received when starting their legal careers.  LLAA members will participate as panelists.

GW Latino Alumni Network: Hispanic Heritage Month Mixer
Wednesday, October 5 - 6:00 PM - Casta's Rum Bar

The LLAA will join the wider GW Latino alumni community in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at this great event.  Bring your friends and make new ones, registration is $10 per person and includes two drink tickets and heavy appetizers.

LALSA Virtual Bilingual Mock Interviews
Wednesday, September 2 - 4:00 PM

LLAA members are encouraged to volunteer for this virtual mock interview event being sponsored by LALSA.  The interviews are meant to be informational or networking in nature, with a goal of helping students work on their professional/business Spanish, so no prep work is required of volunteers.  Any Spanish-speaking lawyer is welcomed to participate, please sign-up or request more info by emailing [email protected].

A conversation with Governor Pierluisi
Wednesday, September 22, 2021 

The GW LLAA joined GW President Thomas LeBlanc, Ph.D., and GW Law Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew, J.D., Ph.D., for a conversation with Puerto Rico’s Governor, Pedro Pierluisi. The Governor opened up about the experiences, challenges, and successes faced throughout his distinguished career. Additionally, he talked about the highlights of his trajectory before, during, and after his time at GW Law. The Governor engaged with GW faculty, alumni, and students. Part of GW Law’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, this was a hybrid event.

Reception at the Mexican Embassy
Wednesday, September 22, 2021 

After a month full of inspiring and dynamic events, the GW LLAA closed the 2021 Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration with a reception at the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C. We gathered and listened to the remarks of Deputy Chief of Mission, Ana Luisa Fajer Flores and the GW Law Dean, Dr. Dayna Bowen Matthew. An evening filled with laughs, stories, and joy. The perfect closing to our month-long programming.

LLAA Initiatives

Latino Law Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship
The Latino Law Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship was established by members of the Latino Law Alumni Association in recognition of their gratitude to the law school. This fund will provide a need-based scholarship for a student at GW Law, and preference will be given to active members of the Latino Law Student Association or students who have a demonstrated interest in Hispanic history and culture.
