Dean Scott Pagel has been elected by the ABA Section on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar to serve on its Council. The Council is recognized by the US Department of Education as the national accrediting agency for programs leading to the JD degree. Members of the Council promulgate the Standards for Approval of Law Schools - the various requirements that law schools must meet to obtain and retain ABA approval - and oversee adherence to those standards by law schools through annual reporting and site inspections. Individuals initially are elected to serve three-year terms on the Council and may serve up to a total of six years.
Prior to his election to the Council, Dean Pagel served for six years on the Accreditation Committee of the Section, including 2 years as chair, of its Standards Review Committee. He has participated in more than two dozen site inspections of law schools around the country and served as chair for several of those visits.
Dean Pagel has served as the Director of the Jacob Burns Law Library for more than 30 years. He also is a Professor of Law and the Associate Dean for Information Services at GW Law. He is the author of numerous articles and book chapters on legal research and law library management.
