Judge Donine Carrington Martin is a Maryland Circuit Court Judge sitting in Charles County, MD. In addition to presiding over complex civil litigation, family, and felony cases Judge Carrington Martin founded the County’s first Adult Drug Court. The Judge also leads the Alternate Dispute Resolution and Mediation department for the Circuit Court of Charles County. She teaches judges topics at the Maryland Judicial College on criminal law, temporary and final protective orders. She is also a mentor for new judges.
Prior to her appointment to the bench in 2017 she was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County, MD. She culminated her career as a prosecutor in the role of Chief, Special Victims and Family Violence unit. In that role she prosecuted baby homicides, child pornography, child physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, and adult sexual assault cases for over 15 years. Before that Judge Carrington Martin practiced extensive civil, criminal defense, and family law throughout the state of Maryland and in the District of Columbia. Upon graduating from law school, she clerked for the Honorable DeLawrence Beard and then began her legal career as a prosecutor in Montgomery County, MD where she handled misdemeanors, juvenile, felony, and murder cases. Throughout her extensive legal career she has tried over 200 jury trials.
She began teaching in 2003 as an adjunct faculty member for several higher education institutions, such as Bowie State University, the College of Southern Maryland, and now at American University, Washington College of Law. In addition, she is very active in several bars, civic and community organizations.
Judge Carrington Martin received her Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University and her Juris Doctor from Benjamin Cardozo School of Law. She is admitted to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
