Edward McNicholas clerked for the Honorable Paul Niemeyer on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. After a brief period of in private practice, Mr. McNicholas served as an Associate Counsel to President Clinton, where he advised senior White House staff regarding various Independent Counsel, congressional and grand jury investigations. Mr. McNicholas is currently a partner and U.S. leader of Ropes & Gray ’s Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. His practice focuses on clients facing complex information technology, constitutional and privacy issues.
Recognized by the National Law Journal as a “Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Trailblazer,” he is the lead editor and co-author of the influential cybersecurity legal treatise, Cybersecurity: A Practical Guide to the Law of Cyber Risk. Mr. McNicholas is member of the Board of Directors of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty as well as the Princeton AlumniCorps.
