Bruna Gadelha has always been a trailblazer. From an international modeling career that took her to the world’s most renowned fashion capitals to her rise as a leader in the legal field, Gadelha’s path has been defined by ambition, resilience, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. Now, she’s set to make history as the first LLM student to join George Washington University’s prestigious GW in New York (GWNY) program in January 2025.

Gadelha’s journey began with a determination to succeed on her own terms. After building an impressive modeling career that saw her work in over 20 countries and collaborate with world-class brands, Gadelha sought to challenge herself in a new arena: the law. She approached her legal studies with the same discipline and drive she brought to her modeling career, quickly earning recognition as a standout scholar.

While studying law in Brazil, Gadelha achieved what few can claim—passing the notoriously challenging OAB (Brazilian Bar Exam) while still in her penultimate semester and graduated with honors, specializing in taxation and making her mark as a rising star in the legal field.

But Gadelha’s vision extends beyond traditional corporate law. At George Washington University, where she is pursuing her LL.M. in Business and Finance, she has distinguished herself through her work on cutting-edge topics like Carbon Taxation. As a member of the Brazilian bar Tax commission, Gadelha has contributed to critical discussions on environmental tax policies, focusing on the transformative potential of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAM). Her research reflects her commitment to leveraging tax law as a tool to combat climate change and create sustainable global economic systems.

The GWNY program represents the perfect convergence of Gadelha’s goals and vision. Combining the academic rigor of GW Law with the unparalleled professional opportunities in New York City, in her words “the program is an ideal platform to further my expertise in corporate and tax law while expanding our impact on global financial systems. As the first LLM student to participate, I hope I’m breaking new ground and paving the way for future international students”.

Her move to New York City marks the next chapter in her already remarkable story. With her sights set on a thriving legal career in the world’s financial hub, Gadelha dreams of making a lasting impact through her expertise in corporate taxation and environmental law.

As Gadelha prepares to begin her journey with the GWNY program in January 2025, she stands as a powerful example of what is possible when ambition, talent, and opportunity align. Her story is one of reinvention, resilience, and the courage to push boundaries. Gadelha’s legacy as a trailblazer, both in fashion and law, is just beginning—and her contributions to tax law, particularly in the fight against climate change, ensure that her impact will be felt for years to come.
