GW Law Celebrates Commencement 2022

The 155th Commencement of the George Washington University Law School was held on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Events took place throughout the weekend and included the Pro Bono Recognition Celebration, the Academic Awards Celebration, the Dean’s Reception, the University Commencement, and the GW Law Diploma Ceremony.

After two years of virtual commencement, GW celebrated the Law School Diploma Ceremony in person. Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Michael Abramowicz announced the commencement. Although Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew was unable to attend due to a recent COVID-19 exposure, she shared in the celebration by watching the virtual ceremony. 

Jordan Michel, President of the GW Law Student Bar Association, addressed his fellow graduates and presented five awards to faculty and staff as voted on by the graduating class. 

The Distinguished Staff Member Award was received by Bobby Walis. Senior Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs Tammy Tideswell received the Distinguished Associate/Assistant Dean Award. The Michael D. Cooley Memorial Award was presented to graduate Tyrus Jackson. The Distinguished Faculty Service Award was received by Arthur Selwyn Miller Research Professor Peter J. Smith. Dean Abramowicz presented the Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Teaching Awards to Distinguished Professorial Lecturer in National Security Law Dan E. Stigall and Professorial Lecturer in Law Randall D. Eliason. Dean Abramowicz also presented the Student Bar Association Distinguished Service Award to graduate Jordan Michel.
