Ilan Friedmann-Grunstein served as an assistant public defender in Miami-Dade County prior to starting his Friedman Fellowship with the Criminal Justice Clinic at GW. Professor Friedmann-Grunstein represented indigent clients at all stages of the criminal system from pre-arraignment through trial. He garnered extensive litigation experience, trying misdemeanor and felony cases, and arguing various evidentiary and constitutional motions.

During law school, Professor Friedmann-Grunstein was a student in Berkeley Law’s Death Penalty Clinic where he assisted in representing clients in state habeas corpus proceedings. He also interned with public defenders’ offices in New Orleans and Alameda County.
