George Washington University Law School Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Belk as Associate Dean of Students, effective February 1, 2023.

“We are so fortunate to have Jason Belk as our new Dean of Students,” Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew said. “Jason brings 15 years of experience leading Dean of Students offices in some of the nation’s top ten law schools. Most importantly, he has spent three years providing outstanding service as Assistant Dean of Students at GW Law. He is passionate about providing assistance, advocacy, and support to our students both academically and personally. I am thrilled to welcome Jason to this vitally important role and know that our students could not be in better hands.”

Since 2019, Belk has served in the Dean of Students office bringing over a decade of law school administrative experience. Prior to coming to GW Law, he served as the inaugural Dean of Students at New York University School of Law where he developed programming related to wellness, academic support, and diversity and inclusion. Before his time at NYU Law, Dean Belk served as the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for Duke University School of Law.

Before joining academia, Dean Belk was a litigator, most recently at Womble Carlyle, Raleigh, NC, and before that at Paul Hastings, Washington, DC, and Farella Braun + Martel, San Francisco, CA. A North Carolina native, he earned a BA from Duke University and a JD in 2004 from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, Boalt Hall. He also holds a Master's in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as Dean of Students for GW Law and build on the successes of my predecessor. Over the last three years, it has become clear I couldn’t ask for better students, faculty, and colleagues in a law school community. This is an especially exciting moment as I get to be part of the implementation of such a student-centered strategic plan."

The Dean of Students office provides academic, co-curricular, and personal assistance to students while they are enrolled at GW Law to help ensure student success. It also oversees student organizations and orientation programs, offers student publication support, and coordinates the annual academic awards program.
