Laura Brown is a co-founder and executive director of First Shift Justice Project, a D.C.- based legal services organization that assists pregnant and caregiving workers. Previously Ms. Brown was a legal director for a workers rights clinic; a staff attorney at a disability rights organization; an associate at a labor/plaintiffs' side law firm; and a staff attorney/business agent at the local hotel & restaurant employees union. Before going to Santa Clara University School of Law, Ms. Brown worked as a program coordinator for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and as an elementary school teacher. Ms. Brown lives in Capitol Hill with her husband, two teenagers, and a dog named Betsy.
