Arne Fuchs, LLM '12, was promoted this month to partner at the international law firm McDermott Will & Emery in Frankfurt, Germany. He joined the firm in February 2013 and specializes in commercial and investment arbitration.

Mr. Fuchs has represented clients in a number of disputes under the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. Most prominent among these is the Vattenfall case, which concerns Germany's decision to phase out nuclear energy following the Fukushima disaster in Japan in 2011. The case has led to a great deal of public interest and criticism of the investor-state dispute settlement because Vattenfall's claim is seen as challenging Germany's right to regulate in the public interest. As well as working on Vattenfall, Mr. Fuchs is representing a number of investors in claims brought against Spain following cuts to subsidies for renewable energy.

In the 2018 edition of Who's Who Legal, Mr. Fuchs has been recognized as a future arbitration leader. In a press release, Dr. Sabine Konrad, a McDermott partner, said she is "very proud" of Mr. Fuchs's achievement, describing him as an "exceptional lawyer."

Mr. Fuchs said he is "grateful for the trust and confidence placed in me."
