Mark Schamel is a partner in the Washington, DC, office of Venable LLP, where he focuses his practice on representing individuals and corporations in white collar criminal defense, government investigations and complex civil litigation matters. 

He routinely represents individuals and corporations in high-profile cases in the Washington, D.C., metro area, across the United States and internationally. Many of Mr. Schamel's cases have involved intense media and public scrutiny, including the defense of executives in some of the largest corporate fraud cases in American history. He has defended numerous high ranking executives and general counsel at some of the world's largest companies, as well as high profile members of various government agencies. Mr. Schamel also represents professional athletes and law enforcement officers in often highly scrutinized investigations. In addition, he regularly advises clients in cases involving federal government agencies, and state and local law enforcement. He also has experience representing clients in appeals and in Congressional hearings and a wide array of traditional criminal charges.

Mr. Schamel is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), a member of the NACDL White Collar Crime Committee, the NACDL Sentencing Committee, and ABA Criminal Justice Standards Committee. He is a past member of the New York State Committee on Professional Discipline. He is included in Super Lawyers' list of top Washington, DC, Criminal Defense White Collar Lawyers (2011-2018), and was named to the Top 100 list for all practice areas in 2016 and to Chambers USA (2018) for White Collar Crime and Government Investigations.
