Michael Beder was an associate in the Communications & Media and Data Privacy & Cybersecurity practice groups at Covington & Burling LLP from September 2011 to September 2018. Later in September, Mr. Beder will join TEGNA as an associate general counsel. At Covington, he advised clients in the broadcast, telecommunications, technology and other sectors on compliance with communications regulatory obligations, policy advocacy before the FCC, and the negotiation of commercial agreements and transactions. Mr. Beder also advised broadcast and other media clients on First Amendment, defamation, and related issues in connection with newsgathering and reporting. In addition, he is an associate trustee of the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. Mr. Beder graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown Law, where he served as an executive articles editor for the Georgetown Law Journal, and earned a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Northwestern University.
