General Registration Information

1. Law School registration is conducted by lottery. It is not first come, first served.

2. Per ABA requirements, JD students will be given priority enrollment in any course required for the JD degree, needed for bar examination preparation, or required for bar admission.

3. If a class over-subscribes due to an enrollment cap or room size, bumps will occur by lottery. Check to see if you've been bumped when registration results are posted.

4. Please submit PRIORITY class selections via Google form. You must also register for this course via GWeb.

  • Current 2L Day and Evening and 3L Evening Students - Beginning Friday, March 20  and ending 11:59 pm Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
  • 1L Day and Evening and LLM / MSL Students - Beginning Friday, March 27 after the closed class list has been posted on the Records Office page ending 11:59 pm Monday, March 30, 2026.

You must submit your PRIORITY form by the end of your designated registration period. Your PRIORITY class should be the course that you want and/or need most (excluding Clinics, Restricted, and Advanced Waitlisted classes).

5. Current 2L Day and Evening and 3L Evening Students: Due to limited enrollment, the courses below will not be accessible via GWeb. Registration will be conducted solely by Advanced Online Waitlists.

Advanced online waitlists for these courses will be available on-line on Tuesday, March 17 until 9:00 am on Thursday, March 19. Results will be sent out via email Thursday afternoon, March 19. If selected, the Records Office will automatically register you. Once selected, if you wish to drop the course, please do so on GWeb (you may drop these courses, but not add) or via the Records Office.

Your PRIORITY CLASS SELECTION cannot be used for advanced online waitlisted classes. All students will have an equal chance via a lottery.

6. 1L Day and Evening and LLM / MSL Students: Please check the list of Closed Classes before selecting your PRIORITY class. The Closed Class list will be posted on the Records Office page by late afternoon on Thursday, March 26.

7. Evening students will be given preference in evening and weekend classes for which they use their priority.

8. JD and LLM / MSL students may not register for more than 15 credits at the initial registration; students may be allowed to add courses up to a maximum of 16 credits during the add/drop period with approval of the Dean of Students via the registration transaction form.

9. Full-time JD students must take a minimum of 12 credit hours.

10. JD students may not enroll in more than 6 credits of online courses per semester, and may not count more than 15 online credits toward their degree.

11. Please do not go to a professor seeking entry into a closed class as the professor cannot give you permission to do so.

12. Check GWeb to see if there are any holds applied to prevent you from registering. A hold can only be cleared by the office that placed the hold on your record. If you are unable to register for courses via GWeb, please submit a Registration Transaction Form once the hold has been removed.

13. When planning your class schedule, take heed of the exam schedule on the web. The Law School has a strict policy regarding final exams. Final exams cannot be rescheduled and students are not permitted to take two classes with final exams at the same time. Therefore, you should select classes with the exam schedule in mind. Students can have two exams in one day, although this is not advisable. Exams on successive days are not uncommon.

14. Course evaluations are available on myGW.

15. A syllabi repository is available on myGW.
