GW Law Associate Dean of National Security, Cybersecurity, and Foreign Relations Law Lisa Schenck shared an emotional story about her fight against cancer in the West Point Summer 2025 magazine. Dean Schenck was an assistant professor at West Point before she came to GW Law.
After being diagnosed with an aggressive form of bile duct cancer in 2023, Dean Schenck needed a complex and high risk liver surgery to save her life. Only a few surgeons in the world would be able to perform such a surgery. Luckily for Dean Schenck, she and her husband, James Schenck, who graduated from West Point, met fellow West Point alumnus Jason Hawksworth, who was able to perform the surgery.
