Ms. Sockett worked as an attorney in the federal government for eleven years at the Department of Commerce and the Federal Communications Commission, focusing on communications law and regulation. She also taught communications law for over fifteen years as an adjunct professor at the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School in Arlington, Virginia. Since 2017, Ms. Sockett has been providing tutoring and counseling to law school students preparing to take the bar exam in the Washington, DC area. She also teaches an online essay writing course she designed specifically for students taking the Virginia Bar Exam. In 2026, Ms. Sockett began working as a Professorial Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University Law School, where she teaches a section of Advanced Legal Analysis, a course for graduating law students focusing on critical legal and writing skills needed for professional legal practice.

Ms. Sockett received her law degree from Harvard Law School, cum laude, and her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude.
