GW Law welcomed over 600 students to campus for orientation from August 7 to August 14.

The incoming 1L JD class represents 13 countries, 44 states, including Washington, D.C., and 204 undergraduate institutions. Of the 601 incoming students, at least 279 speak more than one language and 263 graduated from their undergraduate institutions with honors.

Taking place the week before 1L classes begin, GW Law’s orientation introduced students to campus with sessions on law school basics, career development support, and resources throughout the law school.

Orientation week officially began with transfer student orientation on Friday, August 7. Then, part-time JD students joined for their orientation on Tuesday, August 11, with graduate programs students joining on Wednesday, August 12, and the full-time JD class on Thursday, August 13.

Around 100 students attended optional orientation events, including the Footnotes Program, which provides essential information about navigating law school for first-generation law students, and the Public Interest Program orientation, which introduced students to the Public Interest & Public Service Law Center at GW Law.

The week also provided a key opportunity for students to connect ahead of the start of law school classes, featuring both a barbecue on University Yard right outside of the law school and an ice cream social to cap off the events on Friday. Students also found out their Inns of Court assignments, which are crucial to the 1L experience. The Inns offer students support and guidance from a diverse set of staff and faculty advisors while also providing a community throughout their time at GW Law.

International LLM students, attorneys from foreign countries, as well as exchange students, participated in orientation and, on August 21, GW law will welcome US-educated LLM students and MSL students.
