In its winter 2017 issue, preLaw magazine ranked GW Law in three key areas: Pro Bono, Trial Advocacy, and International Law. GW Law has the 4th most pro bono hours of any law school in the country.

PreLaw honored law schools that have contributed the most in legal services to their local communities. Students have worked in many pro bono cases and externships, and as a result of the hard work performed by the GW Law community, it is one of the top schools with the most community service hours overall. The magazine reports that students tallied nearly 130,000 hours, "The list of government and public-services agencies that students worked for ran into the dozens. Among them: The Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project; Hogar Immigrant Services; the D.C. bar's Small Business Brief Legal Advice Clinic; Volunteer Income Tax Assistance; and the Animal Legal Defense Fund."

In addition, GW Law has been listed as one of the best places to study Trial Advocacy and was ranked high in International Law.
